We’re excited to be a last minute entry in the 50 Precious Words contest. This wonderful contest with lots of great prizes is hosted by an up-and-coming children’s book writer, Vivian Kirkfield on her blog: https://viviankirkfield.com/.
The quest was to write a children’s picture book in less then 50 words. Naturally, I wrote about music and how kids get excited about making music, sometimes with the simplest instruments. Like a washboard.
I love the idea of this book because the main character in the story can be younger or older, from any culture and could also be a kid of differing abilities. None of that matters when you let music out of your heart and your mouth and into the world.
So, without further ado, here’s our entry!
I Wished For A Washboard
By: Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou
I wished for a washboard
So that I could play
Some music with mom
or my friends, everyday
I’d make lots of rhythms
Then guess what I’d do?
I’ll give you my washboard
And you could play, too!
I wished for a washboard
To make music my own
And today I am happy
Mom brought one home!
